Urgent plumbing

Leak Detection & Slab Leak Repair

Acoustic listening, thermal imaging and pressure isolation to locate a hidden leak precisely, so the repair opens one section of wall or slab instead of guessing across five.

Common signs

Signs you need leak detection

  • A water bill that jumped with no change in usage
  • The sound of running water when everything is off
  • A warm or damp spot on the floor
  • Cracks appearing in floors or walls
  • Mildew smell with no visible source
  • The water meter dial moves with all fixtures closed

Typical jobs

10 kinds of work under leak detection

Electronic leak detection

Acoustic and correlation equipment that pinpoints a pressurised leak through concrete, tile and drywall.

Slab leak detection and repair

Locating leaks in pipes under the foundation, then repairing by spot access, reroute or repipe.

Under-slab pipe rerouting

Abandoning a failed under-slab run and rerouting the line overhead or through walls when repeat repairs make no sense.

Thermal imaging surveys

Infrared scanning that reveals moisture paths and hot water leaks behind finished surfaces.

Pool and spa line leak detection

Pressure testing pool plumbing to separate a plumbing leak from evaporation or a shell crack.

Irrigation and sprinkler line leaks

Locating breaks in buried irrigation mains and lateral lines.

Gas leak detection

Combustible gas detection and pressure testing on natural gas and propane lines.

Water meter and high bill investigation

Isolating sections of the system to prove where an unexplained consumption increase is going.

Toilet and fixture leak diagnosis

Dye testing and valve inspection for the silent leaks that add hundreds to a bill.

Sewer and drain leak location

Camera and smoke testing to find leaks in non-pressurised waste lines.

FAQ

Leak Detection: common questions

How is a hidden leak found without breaking anything?

Typically by isolating the system to prove there is a leak and where it is not, then using acoustic listening equipment to hear pressurised water escaping and thermal imaging to see the moisture path. The point is to open one small access rather than search by demolition.

What is a slab leak and is it serious?

It is a leak in a supply pipe running beneath the concrete foundation. It is serious — it saturates and can undermine the soil under the slab, which is how foundation movement starts. It rarely stops on its own and rarely gets cheaper by waiting.

Is it covered by homeowners insurance?

Policies commonly cover the resulting water damage and the cost of accessing the pipe, but not the pipe repair itself. Coverage varies significantly, so check your policy or ask your insurer. Ask the plumber for written documentation and photos your adjuster can use.

Can I just repair it rather than reroute?

A single spot repair is reasonable for a pipe that is otherwise sound. When a slab run has leaked more than once, the same corrosion is present along the whole length, and rerouting is what stops you paying for this again in eighteen months.
